Have you ever been asked to do something you don’t like or don’t feel like doing?
Creating social media videos could look easy to do. The truth is that using our phones to record a video and hoping that it connect to our audience is far complex than what it looks like. Creating social media videos with the recipe to catch our audience attention and make them go to our website or buy our product requires of a certain planning and strategy. In this blog we will discuss 3 tips that can help you speak your audience language and create more engagement and participation.
My name is Emmanuel, I’m one of the members of the fun team at Innova Leaf Creative Solutions. But when I’m not creating social media video content, I’m busy being a dad. I have 3 young kids. The oldest is 9 years old, then there’s another boy who is 7, and my beautiful girl who is 5. My 5 years old daughter always ask me to play with her dolls or her toy kitchen. Sometimes the game is giving a class to her stuffed animals or putting on a show in front of her giant audience of plush toys and dolls, but the truth is, those kinds of games are boring to me. It’s a language I don’t speak. So, many times I play with her for a little while to make her happy, then come up with another fun game that we both can enjoy. Right now, it’s soccer season, and my two boys are playing for a team in our city. Due to the age difference, they’re each on different teams, so they have practices on different days of the week. So, every afternoon from Monday to Friday, I take my kids to their soccer practices and spend 1 or 2 hours each afternoon at the park.
My 5-year-old daughter, who knows me so well, takes advantage of the moment and ask, “Daddy, can you play with me at the park?” and she gives me her convincing face. She opens her big eyes, tightens her lips, and puts her two hands beside her cheeks as if saying “Please.” When she makes that face, she already has my attention. Not much time after her play time request, she says, “We can play tag or with the ball or cops and robbers!” At this point in our conversation, she has already convinced me, and I can’t say no. She is offering me to play games I like.
“Of course,” I said, even though I didn’t feel like running or didn’t have the energy, suddenly I find myself running and playing with her for 2 straight hours. The result? My daughter got her way and got what she wanted from her ideal client.
Coincidence or Causality? My daughter knew what she was doing to me
First, she knew where I was (going to the park). Second, she knew when to grab my attention and what message she had to give or show me to get my attention (she melts me with her gaze and tone and invites me to play games I like). Lastly, as a result of her strategy, she knew how to convince me to take an action completely focused on her own benefit. My 5-year-old daughter knows me like the back of her hand and knows how to speak my language and connect with me.
3 Tips to create a Social Media Video that speak direct and clearly to your audience needs
Apply these principles in your business social media video marketing strategy It will bring great benefits. As you start preparing to create your business social media video marketing strategy, you must take into account these 3 points:
1. Understand where is your audience?
Your audience can use different social media platforms. Find out what type of video they consume. Maybe shorts, or maybe 8 minute videos. The list of platforms where you can find your ideal client can be extensive. Study where they spend most of their time and create video content for them in those platforms.
2. Identify the goal of your video
What is the purpose for which you want to create this social media video? Offer your audience something they can’t resist and have to say “Yes” to. Know well what their needs are. What hurts them or what problems they need to solve. Make your message clear about the solution you offer.
3. Create a message that grabs their attention
What kind of topics does your ideal audience look for when they want to educate themselves or have fun. Find what topic it is and speak to them in a tone and with visuals that are persuasive. Show them the benefits they will get when they do what you’re asking the to do in your social media video. Show them how your product or service will help them solve their pain points.

Just as my daughter knows what time of the day, I have time for her, you must know what time of the day or week your audience has the most availability to hear your proposal. By creating social media video content, you’ll be able to identify which topics and video types your audience wants to engage. This information is crucial because you don’t want to talk to your audience about a topic they are not interested in. My daughter knows that I like to run and exercise, and not so much playing with dolls or cooking. So, she suggests things that interest me but also allow her to get what she’s looking for, which is fun and spending time with her dad.
Your social media video should include these 3 factors: Understand what platform you will be using, set a specific goal and craft a clear message that talks directly to their needs or interests.
